FB Invitation : Til Døden Os Skiller

In dialogue and exchange, Carlsen and Kirkegaard have drawn inspiration from each other’s work and ideas, creating an exhibition that unfolds as an immersive experience encompassing both sound and sculpture.

The exhibition takes as its starting point the familiar promise that death is the only thing that can part us as human beings, and explores this notion literally: death separates not only one person from another, but also the human being from their own body. The body ceases to exist as a unified, defined whole — through dissection, decomposition, or the gradual merging of the body with its surroundings.

Visitors encounter sculptural, abstract body parts in porcelain. Each fragment appears as a trace of a whole that no longer exists. Like a person remembered after their death, the body exists here only in fragments — as remnants of a person, a touch, or a shared life.

The exhibition’s soundscape is composed of recordings from a mortuary and of the dissection of a human body. The sounds move between the concrete and the abstract, bringing another form of presence to the physical fragments.

In Till Death Do Us Part, the desire to remain inseparable throughout life is thus confronted with the body’s inevitable separation — from the beloved, from itself, and ultimately from the world of which it has been a part.

Metamorphosis
The exhibition Till Death Do Us Part takes the theme of Metamorphosis as its starting point, exploring change as a fundamental condition, with a particular focus on death, autopsy and biological decomposition. Metamorphosis is the overarching theme of the exhibitions presented at Den Nordiske Ambassade in 2026–2027.

Den Nordiske Ambassade
Den Nordiske Ambassade (for samtidskunst) is a new exhibition space for professional contemporary art in the heart of Svendborg. Located at Møllergade 68A, it serves as a platform for exhibitions, artist-led projects and interdisciplinary formats.

Den Nordiske Ambassade is run by visual artists Camilla Carlsen, Matilde Duus and Nils Elvebakk Skalegård; graphic designer Thomas Cassander; curator and visual communicator Josephine Dupont; and cultural practitioner Julie Søgren Jensen.

Till Death Do Us Part runs from 23 October to 19 December 2026.
